These clothes should have lots of pockets, be easy to take off and carry, and make you feel pretty official. Be aware that most birding is done just at and after dawn when it is cool - if not downright cold - and that the later part of the morning will be considerably warmer. You will need versatility in your clothing.

REI has long been a great place to shop for outdoor equipment and clothing. Click on the REI icon on the right here and check out vests, hats, boots, etc. There is a great vest with good pockets for a field guide or a candy bar.
